Projects
The Social Ministry carries out many projects throughout the year. These include an annual Coat Drive in January, the Souper Bowl for Hunger on SuperBowl Sunday, support of the Heifer Project with Lenten Wednesday offerings, ongoing support of domestic and international Disaster Response through awareness-raising and designated giving opportunities, and support of military personnel overseas with cards, care packages, and needed supplies for both troops and local inhabitants.
Mission Partnership with First Lutheran Church, Inglewood, CA
LCIF is partnered with a sister ELCA congregation in Inglewood, CA. The relationship includes many shared ministries, such as a jointly-sponsored Vacation Bible School, Christmas Gift Sharing with the congregation's youth AND the youth of First's neighborhood, joint Choir events (including our 2007 Christmas Concert), pulpit exchanges, joint youth events, and more. It is a vibrant and lively two-way exchange of gifts, talents, and relationships!
African Team Ministries Crafts Sale
Crafts, jewelry, weaving, baskets, carvings, and other fine art and useful products are sold by this marketing cooperative through volunteers in congregations. Sales are held regularly at LCIF, and especially before holiday periods. Following a "fair trade" ethic, craftspersons receive a just, "living wage" from these sales, with only minimal costs for shipping and distribution.
Fair Trade Coffee, Tea, and Chocolate Sales
LWR's Coffee, Tea and "Divine" Chocolate Projects are fair-traded products from producer's cooperatives, and distributed through LWR member denominations. A wide selection of products from various regions, with several flavors and types, are offered for sale at very reasonable prices. Sales are held monthly during Fellowship Hour after Sunday worship services, and in the Church Office.
Equal Exchange is sponsored by Lutheran World Relief, the relief and development arm of Lutheran World Federation.
